  1. Officially, the operating system that was available on that Mac at the time that you bought it is the oldest version of macOS that can run on that Mac. It's likely that an older OS won't include.
  2. Running OS X under Hyper-V is definitely not supported, and a violation of the Apple licensing. If you get it to work there are no Integration Components to allow it to interact with Hyper-V or use the virtualized hardware that Hyper-V has.
  3. Testing on Mac OS 10.14.6, vscode v1.41. I can't seem to get the brightness to change, but maybe it's too subtle and I just can't tell 🤷‍♂ I'll test again at night.
