A corrupt preference file(s) is often the cause for unusual behavior on your Mac, especially if an application isn’t opening or crashes frequently. Preference files store all sorts of application-specific information, everything from your browser’s home page to font settings, and even things like the shortcuts you keep in your Finder sidebar. Mac OS X has a built-in utility which may be able to repair a corrupted DMG file. To access it, enter “disk utility” into the “Spotlight” search box. Then click “Images” on the menu bar and select “Verify,” then select the DMG file in the Finder window that opens. If the issues don't come up then you most likely have a software issue or corrupted HD. If you have the DVDs that came with your mac then inserting the disk that has the Apple Hardware Test (it is printed on the disc) and boot the computer holding D. This will boot the iMac into Apple Hardware Tests and you can perform an extended test sequence. Users with older Macs that don’t have a T2 chip can reboot the Mac into single-user mode by holding the Command + S combination to repair a corrupt partition that limits access. At times Minecraft will hiccup and drop a saved world from the list of those available. The file is still there with the other saved worlds, it is just been corrupted. The missing world, and all your effort there, is recoverable. The things you were wearing and carrying at the time the world got corrupted are not.

The reason why this insane message is happening is because as of February 2016, the security certificates that validate these Mac OS X installs seems to have expired. What this means is that when you try to install Mac OS X Mavericks, Yosemite or El Capitan from any USB or external source, the certificate checking process will render your copy of the installer null and void. You will then get the error “This copy of the Install OS X Mavericks application can’t be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.”

- Boot into the OS X installer as you would normally do (hold down option at boot and choose your installer
- Disconnect the ethernet cable if it’s connected and turn off wi-fi from the networking menu
- Open the utilities menu item and choose “Terminal”
- When the Terminal appears, simply type in the following command: date 0202020216
- Hit return and you will now see the new date as read back by the system
- Quit the Terminal
- You can now begin to reinstall OS X from the main screen as you did before
